The Next Generation of Consumers and SEO

Businesses so often focus on the current generation of consumers, they forget that they need to focus on the upcoming generation of consumers; teenagers. While teens do shop on their own, they aren’t making their own income to spend as freely as adults do and often the money they are spending currently, came from mom and dad.  But it is still important to look at who they are now because it will determine the kind of consumer they are when they get older.

Taking a look at how they communicate, 93% of them use email. That same percentage is also how many use their phone, counting texting and talking.  90% of them use Facebook regularly, 74% use YouTube and 47% use Skype. It is interesting to see how both email and Facebook are very close to each other, in terms of the amount of time they spend on  each throughout the day.

So what does all this mean for you as a company? It means using Facebook as a way to reach the younger generation. You can do this by creating a company page and broadcasting new products, giveaways, photos and more. You might also want to look at e-mail marketing, to get in touch with those who are constantly using that as a way to communicate.

Add E-Mail Marketing to Your Marketing Efforts

SEO companyIf you’re an online retailer, there is no excuse not to perform e-mail marketing. This is a great opportunity to increase traffic to your site and hopefully increase sales. E-mail marketing should target interested customers, though, and you shouldn’t be purchasing e-mail lists that simply put anyone and everyone on it. Start by placing e-mail subscription forms directly on your homepage. It should be visible without taking away from your site’s layout.

You shouldn’t be bombarding people every single day with e-mails either. Think about if you want to do them once a week, twice a month, etc.  –whatever you feel works best for your company. Use them to promote sales, new items, contests, etc. Customers need a reason to visit your site, so do not just send out e-mails every week because you feel that you have to. Wait until there is something to entice them. Make the e-mails visually appealing without too much text. Readers have a short attention span and within a few seconds of looking at the e-mail, they’ll know if it’s worth to click through to the site.

Also consider offering special discounts and coupons to those who sign up for e-mails. This will gain more subscribers and give people a reason to shop. Need more help? Visit the NY SEO company Ajax Union for more information.

Do you work for an SEO company? Do you wish you worked for an SEO company? Either way, you’re probably curious to know the very best jams to listen to while engaging in the various forms of online marketing. Go forth!

Off Page SEO — “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers
Search engine optimization is all about going the distance — spreading your message far and wide via blogs, articles, classified listings, directory postings, social profiles, etc. etc. In fact, if we hadn’t chosen this Proclaimers ditty, we probably would have gone with “Going The Distance,” by Cake. The Proclaimers won out, though, mostly because this song was in Benny & Joon.

On Page SEO — “Do You Love Me?” by The Contours
Have you ever tried to change yourself to win somebody over? We have. Website SEO is sort of like the makeover scene from Pretty Woman, except you’re not trying to impress Richard Gere — you’re trying to impress Google. (So, yes, we could have gone with “Pretty Woman” here, but we’d prefer to honor a song that mentions a dance called the mashed potato.)

Pay-Per-Click — “Push It” by Salt ‘n’ Pepa
What is a click, really, if not the direct consequence of a forefinger pushing the button of a mouse? While we’re tinkering with the advanced settings of our Google AdWords management accounts, Salt ‘n’ Pepa’s “Push It” keeps us going strong. Ooh baby baby!

Email Marketing — “Mr. Postman” by The Marvelettes
Let’s face it, email kicks snail mail’s butt: the formatting, the speed, the statistical potential — not to mention the lack of a physical postman. This Marvelettes tune reminds us of that bygone era before @’s and dot coms, reminding us to be thankful that, when we can’t find a message we’re expecting, we need only to open the folder labeled spam.
