Online Marketing Tips: The Whole Kit and Kaboodle!

online marketingIf you run an ecommerce site — or if your search engine agency is promoting one — there’s one website you should absolutely incorporate into your online marketing campaign: Kaboodle. A well-trafficked online shopping community, Kaboodle makes it easy for users to add and share individual products from around the web: items they own, items they wish they owned, and — in your case — items they’d like to promote.

Kaboodle comes with a handy drag-to-your-toolbar button that allows users to submit content directly from product pages. You can customize the title, price and description of the item, and even enter a comment to go with it. It’s a great way to tie individual products to keywords, and get your pages indexed faster on Google Products and other comparison shopping engines.

Note: When creating a Kaboodle account, it’s best to use your real name, then add your business as a Kaboodle Brand. This is in accordance with their TOS, so your posts will not be deleted as SPAM. (Remember, White Hat online marketing is always the way to go!)

SEO NY Ideas: Deep Linking

seo nyIf Hamlet worked at an SEO company, he’d likely encounter a familiar industry conundrum: To deep link, or not to deep link?

Deep linking, by the way, is the process of building links to pages on your website other than your homepage. Deep linking is useful to drive traffic to valuable pages on your site. Of course, you don’t want to direct too many resources away from linking to your homepage — the most important page on your site.

The compromise? Give your SEO plan a chance to build up some links to your main site, then make a shift to deep linking. (Take that, Prince of Denmark.)

Once you’re ready for deep linking, it’s important to choose your targeted pages wisely. Good candidates include:

  • Service/category pages
  • FAQs
  • Articles
  • Glossaries

Directing a bunch of links to a single product  — a pair of neon pink fashion tights, for example — is probably a waste of resources. However, pointing your searchers to your main fashion tights product page is a worthwhile pursuit. Informative content like FAQs, articles, and glossaries can be similarly valuable, especially if these pages contain links to more specific products and services.

If your website isn’t set up for deep linking, you might consider restructuring your domain for more effective SEO, both on site and off. For information on this and other services, check out our internet marketing company at www.AjaxUnion.com.

Search Engine Marketing Playlist

search engine marketing

Do you work for an SEO company? Do you wish you worked for an SEO company? Either way, you’re probably curious to know the very best jams to listen to while engaging in the various forms of online marketing. Go forth!

Off Page SEO — “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers
Search engine optimization is all about going the distance — spreading your message far and wide via blogs, articles, classified listings, directory postings, social profiles, etc. etc. In fact, if we hadn’t chosen this Proclaimers ditty, we probably would have gone with “Going The Distance,” by Cake. The Proclaimers won out, though, mostly because this song was in Benny & Joon.

On Page SEO — “Do You Love Me?” by The Contours
Have you ever tried to change yourself to win somebody over? We have. Website SEO is sort of like the makeover scene from Pretty Woman, except you’re not trying to impress Richard Gere — you’re trying to impress Google. (So, yes, we could have gone with “Pretty Woman” here, but we’d prefer to honor a song that mentions a dance called the mashed potato.)

Pay-Per-Click — “Push It” by Salt ‘n’ Pepa
What is a click, really, if not the direct consequence of a forefinger pushing the button of a mouse? While we’re tinkering with the advanced settings of our Google AdWords management accounts, Salt ‘n’ Pepa’s “Push It” keeps us going strong. Ooh baby baby!

Email Marketing — “Mr. Postman” by The Marvelettes
Let’s face it, email kicks snail mail’s butt: the formatting, the speed, the statistical potential — not to mention the lack of a physical postman. This Marvelettes tune reminds us of that bygone era before @’s and dot coms, reminding us to be thankful that, when we can’t find a message we’re expecting, we need only to open the folder labeled spam.

Online Marketing Sites We Love: Pagemodo

online marketing

At the Ajax Union internet marketing company, we’re always on the lookout for new SEO tools. One of our new favorites is a site called Pagemodo — a neat, free service that allows you to create a cool Facebook welcome tab without any fancy HTML knowledge.

Pagemodo offers many of its service for free, with three tiered pay services for more greater utility. The site allows you to incorporate custom text (including links), photos, and videos (with the $19/month pro subscription) onto your tabs, with the option of including content that only appears to Facebook fans — great for promotional codes, instructional videos, etc.

Why do we bring this up? Welcome tabs matter. They help your page stand out from the gazillions of others like it, and allow you to — tactfully — remind and/or implore visitors to fan your page. If you have HTML skills, we encourage you to create your own pages. If not, Pagemodo is a great alternative for search engine marketing.

SEO Company Nightmares: The 25 Hardest Keywords

seo company

Search engine marketing is all about keywords. You have to rank for attainable keywords (on your budget), but still target a high enough search volume to see results.

Thus, trying to ranking for “light brown capri pants with side zippers” would not be very productive. And, on the other end of the spectrum, targeting a super-popular keyword is not smart either.

SEOmoz recently published a list of the 25 most difficult keywords to rank for.

Highlights include:

  • free
  • click
  • SEO
  • money
  • blog
  • business
  • internet

If you had any of those keywords on your list, we suggest you cross them out. Try ranking for something a little more attainable, like SEO company.

Search Engine Marketing Tips: Using rel=”me”

search engine marketingIf you’re working on an onsite search engine marketing campaign, adding the rel=”me” attribute to your HTML repertoire is a must. Unlike rel=”nofollow” — which tells search engines to ignore certain links — rel=”me” conveys to search engines “Hey, I’m linking to another site that I own.”

When should you use rel=”me”? When you’re linking to your Facebook profile, your Twitter, your offsite blog. With rel=”me”, you can teach Google to associate your social profiles with your primary domain — all without giving up any of your precious link juice. Because at Ajax Union, we’re all about preserving link juice.

A sample rel=”me” link would look like this:

<a href=”http://www.facebook.com/ajaxunion” rel=”me”>Ajax Union Facebook</a>

You can also use rel=”me nofollow”, which will tell Google not to follow your link, while still alerting it of your social profile.

Confused about all these attributes? HTML can seem like a foreign language, but that’s why it pays to hire an SEO company. Check out AjaxUnion.com to explore our web services.

2 Cool SEO Company Tools

seo company

It’s Friday, amirite? In light of this momentous occasional, we’ve spent much of the afternoon perusing the internets for some fun SEO company tools to play with.

That’s when we discovered WebConfs.com, a website overflowing with SEO tools. TGIF.

Let’s take a look at our two favorite tools, both of which are backlink-related:

1. Backlink Builder

That just sounds good, doesn’t it? The WebConfs Backlink Builder allows you to search for relevant, high PR sites likely to link to your site. We searched “online marketing” and found a lot of results.

2. Backlink Anchor Text Analyzer

These days, scoring a lot of backlinks isn’t enough — if you want to see SEO results, you need anchor links listing your site under a targeted keyword. This handy and/or dandy tool gives you a list of anchor text links leading to your domain. If you see any non-keyword anchor text (for example, “Ajax Union”), consider emailing the site owner and requesting that they replace it with a keyword term, like online marketing.

More Rules About PR Online Marketing

online marketingFollowing up on our previous post about search engine marketing with press releases, let’s take a look at three more tips for effective PR online marketing:

3. Pimp Your Summary

Kind of like a website’s meta description, the summary of your press release is likely to in search results pages, so it better be compelling. For the best search engine marketing, be sure to include the SEO keywords you’re targeting.

4. Choose Your Topics Wisely

Although press releases have changed a lot over the years, their purpose remains the same: to communicate news to journalists and other readers. Thus, your press release topic should be somewhat newsy in nature. Talk about a recent or upcoming event, seasonal products, industry news, etc.

5. Choose the right PR services.

All PR sites are not created equal. When browsing various distribution sites, think about:

  • The price. There are a variety of free sites available, but some of the pay-sites are worth the money.
  • The turnaround time. Is your press release going to be posted immediately, or will you have to wait one or more days to see it? Some sites are worth the wait, others are not.
  • The perks. Can you place keyword links in your PR text? How about images and video? On some sites, you can.
  • The distribution radius. Looking to get on Google News? You can. Certain PR sites distribute to Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other important networks. You just need to know where to look.

With these tips, you should have no trouble adding PR marketing to your repertoire of internet advertising services.

Search Engine Agency Tricks: How To Get More Facebook Fans

search engine agency

Some people say life isn’t a popularity contest — but on Facebook, it pretty much is. But unlike high school, which requires a delicate balance of post-curfew excusions and hairspray, mastering the web’s most popular social network is much more attainable. All you need is some smart online marketing.

Some ideas:

  • Tag Your Text - Facebook makes it easy to tag people and pages. When you’re posting a status update, simply type the “@” symbol followed by the first few letters of the page that you would like to tag, then select your item from the resultant drop down menu.
  • Promote Your Page… Everywhere – Just like an externally hosted website, your Facebook page can benefit from external linking and promotion. Add a link to your Facebook profile, your business card, your email signature, your website, your blog, your Twitter, and anywhere else you can think of.
  • Advertise – There’s no such thing as a free lunch, but with the right management, a sponsored advertising campaign on Facebook can be pretty lucrative. Visit Facebook.com/advertising to learn about promoting your page online.

Whether you’re using Facebook for search engine marketing, branding, or a little of both, these tips should help you promote your page for a more successful experience.
